Haley Straw is a homeschooling mother of six, author, speaker, and Amish taxi driver whose real-life adventures inspire her books, talks, and TikTok stories. She lives with her husband and children in a repurposed county jailhouse in a little town surrounded by Amish country in rural Missouri, surrounded by Amish friends and fields of simple beauty.
Haley never set out to be an author—or an Amish taxi driver. But when the Amish noticed her big vehicle and asked for a ride, one trip turned into another, and soon she found herself traveling across the country with Amish families. She and her youngest children have stayed in Amish homes, shared their meals, and witnessed firsthand the humor, grit, and faith of a community few outsiders ever glimpse so closely.
What began as notes for her children became stories too rich not to share. Haley writes with warmth, candor, and humor, weaving Amish wisdom with her own experiences of faith, family, and resilience.
Originally from Oregon, Haley graduated from BYU–Idaho and now lives in Missouri and shares a ten-acre hobby farm with her husband, three sons, and three daughters. She’s happiest with a notebook in hand, wind in her hair (especially on a Hawaiian beach), or a van full of Amish passengers headed toward their next adventure.
When she’s not writing or driving, she enjoys crocheting, foraging, biking, teaching wilderness survival classes, and dreaming up new ways to bring beauty into everyday life.
Haley and her husband share a busy and joy-filled life full of children, some grown, and some still at home. They enjoy farm life in rural Missouri and the adventures that come with raising kids, homeschooling, and road trips with Amish friends.
Haley believes stories are meant to be shared. Want to keep in touch?
